Only in Switzerland ! 4 years ago when I captured the image that would become the cover of my book (see my previous post), I thought I was so lucky and that Iā€™d never experience the same conditions again. Well, here we are. Exactly 4 years later. Same month. Same country. Same altitude (yes, both at 2,130m a.s.l.). What were the odds honestly?!. This time I only missed a hiker to include in the frame šŸ˜ Just 2 days ago I took this photo in the canton of Lucerne. Mt Pilatus lies just above the city of the same name, and I was lucky enough to spend around 20 hours on top that mountain (not in a tent, thereā€™s actually a 3-star hotel up there that serves delicious food!). Currently in @myswitzerland on assignment that focuses on cities (Basel, Lausanne and Lucerne), you can imagine how much of a surprise it was to capture such an unbelievable moment. Especially when the way up to the mountain didnā€™t look promising AT ALL (check my stories). Thanks to the partners that helped me witness this gift from Mother Nature ! @ilove_lucerne @myswitzerlandnl @pilatus #iNeedSwitzerland #inLoveWithSwitzerland #MyLucerne #LakeLucerneRegion

TODAY ONLY - LAST CHANCE TO BUY A PRINT BEFORE I CLOSE SHOP! Big career change announcement! _ Starting tomorrow I will stop selling open edition prints for an undefined period for time. Today is the last day one can order a print at a starting price under 70ā‚¬! As of tomorrow, all prints will be removed from my website and it will no longer be possible to order one. Next autumn, I will release a new collection of SIGNED + LIMITED EDITION PRINTS (of 7 copies) at a much higher price, starting from 500ā‚¬. If youā€™d like to get a print of my work on your wall for a reasonable price, today is the last day ever to order one. Recently, I've been contacted by an art gallery, and we are in the process of seeing if eventually I could be represented by them. Whatever the final outcome, it also made me think about the notion of art and the value I want to give to my future work. I want to step up my game :) What is an open edition? It's a photo print, which legally and fiscally speaking, can't be considered as art, because it's neither signed nor it is limited to maximum 30 copies. However, all the photos that I've sold on my website until now can be printed in an infinite number of copies. Moreover they're not signed. The reason why I offered this option was precisely to allow everyone to be able to afford one of my photos (an open edition is necessarily much cheaper than a signed + limited edition, which are more rare). I realize that from now on my photos will be accessible to less people. But at almost 34 years old, I want to position myself as a true artist photographer, and step away from that 'Instagrammer' label which is too pejorative in the industry. That said, I want to give a last chance to all those who love my art, who have always wanted to buy a print but never took the plunge. You only have today to order your favorite photo from my website, in an open edition, before they never get available again starting tomorrow. Thank you for your perpetual support, I realize how lucky I am to have this community surrounding me šŸ™ To order a print, swipe up my stories on check link in bio Feel free to send me a DM for any question related to your order :)

@printsforwildlife is back, and this year Iā€™m donating this emblematic photo that I took in South Africa, 2 years ago. Did you know COVID-19 is still having a devastating impact on protected areas in Africa? The pandemic has brought the international tourism sector to a standstill, along with critical revenue for wildlife and communities. But there is an easy way to help! After last yearā€™s incredible success more than 150+ globally renowned wildlife photographers and emerging talents are coming together yet again for the second edition of @printsforwildlife. Last year, more than 6,500 prints were sold - collecting over 660,000 dollars for the benefit of @africanparksnetwork. This year we are aiming to sell 10,000 prints - so together we can raise $1mio for conservation! Weā€™re almost close to beat last yearā€™s record and there are 9 days to go!! We need you to raise those $1M! 100% of the proceeds (after printing and handling) will be donated to @africanparksnetwork so that they can continue to protect wildlife and deliver benefits to local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please show your support for wildlife and communities; purchase or gift a print; share this message, and join us in being part of the solution to securing Africaā€™s wild places. If you aren't able to buy a print yourself, please do share this message with your friends and family. The print fundraiser is open from 11th of July to 11th of August 2021. Available for a limited time, each print costs 100 USD and is printed on Hahnemuhle Natural Line Hemp fine-art paper, 30x45cm with a 1cm border, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Thank you for joining us, helping to protect wildlife, supporting conservation and the people whose lives depend on it more than ever. Visit www.printsforwildlife.org or follow @printsforwildlife on Instagram to see how you can purchase a limited print, whether itā€™s this one or one from other incredibly talented photographers. PS: Iā€™ve been told there are only a few prints left of this image, since itā€™s being printed at 100 pieces only, so donā€™t waste any time and secure your order now if you want it :) #printsforwildlife

Iā€™m back on the road with the mighty Hilux 7 months after my last road trip (make sure to check out those fresh stories over the next coming weeks) ! Not sure exactly where weā€™ll go this summer with Del. You know we like to go with the flow and make impromptu decisions, but Greece is definitely an option, as itā€™s been almost every year since 2017. Last month I was on assignment in Greece for @aegeanairlines and @visitgreecegr, and you guys loved following my stories while I was there. We visited 4 islands (Crete, Santorini, Rhodes and Corfu), all very different from each other, we obviously ate delicious food and discovered some new gems in the 2 islands I had never been before! Hereā€™s a selection of postcards I brought back with me from this trip. So many friends of mine are currently visiting Greece, even my parents are, and I have to admit Iā€™m looking forward to my next time there. Have you been in Greece yet? What was your favorite place? Are you planning on visiting (again) this summer? If so, make sure to check out @aegeanairlines #SunshineDiscount that can get you up to 40% off your flight tickets, based on your departure city and destination temperature (the bigger the temperature difference, the bigger the discount!). #visitgreece #aegeanairlines #ad

If youā€™ve been following along for quite some time, you know that 4 years ago, in the spring of 2017, I went on a my 5-month road trip across Europe, a photography project that I called ā€˜Peaks of Europeā€™. This image is part of it. This entire project, and the 200 photos that illustrate my book, were taken with a couple of Nikon D750 bodies and the Holy Trinity of Nikon lenses. That camera, that I bought when I lived in NZ, I loved it so much! When I upgraded my kit, I sold one of my D750 bodies online, but kept the other one just because I was being too emotional to see it go away. Now I think Iā€™m finally ready to pass that camera to someone else. I mean, Iā€™m sure it will be more useful to someone who wants a great full frame DSLR for cheap, rather than just sitting on my window sill collecting dust. A few months back a friend told me about @mpbcom and Iā€™ve started to use it to buy film cameras and lenses for my current kit. By the way, tell me whatā€™s in your camera bag and what gear is sitting on your shelf that you donā€™t even remember the last time you used it? #putkitbackinplay #ad

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø DID YOU MISS THE NEWS? The last month has been my most productive yet since Peaks of Europe in 2017. Geez, I donā€™t even know where to startā€¦ OK, so letā€™s go back to last year, when the pandemic hit the world. I was just returning from an assignment for MSF in Haiti - which still remains my last travel assignment to date actually - and I was kind of happy with the whole lockdown situation that allowed me to breathe and take more time for myself, more time to just do nothing (and play the PS4 I had just bought), after a few years of never taking it easy. Quite soon though, I realised it was time to take advantage of all that free time. I invested a lot in myself, trained by following online courses in multiple fiels, read a lot and educated myself photography culture, and I started to think about new projects and ideas, most of them on how I could share my knowledge and 10 years of experience in photography with people who have the same interests than me. My love for podcasts and YouTube was growing, just as it was for education. After months of thinking, planning, designing ideas, I decided March 2021 was going to be the month I would finally go live with all my projects. First, on World Book Day (March 4) I launched a new Instagram account dedicated to my love for photo books and magazines : @photobookjunkie Every day on there I share a new book that I cherish, as Iā€™m trying to show the new generation of photographers that thereā€™s no better way to learn photography and work on your style than by reading books and stepping away from Instagram from time to time. A couple of days later, I thought it would be interesting to see how this new app ClubHouse is working, so I created the club for Frenchspeaking Photographers, on which I host 3 rooms a week about photography. A month later, the club has already 700+ members and followers. Mid-March, I finally did something I had in mind for years, literally ! I launched my YouTube channel, 100% dedicated to photography culture and the job of being a photographer. Today Iā€™ve released the 3rd video, and I think Iā€™m going to stick to a minimum of 1 video every couple of weeks. šŸ‘‡More in the comments

CELEBRATING 33 TODAY! šŸŽ‰ While the whole of Belgium has gone back into lockdown since this morning, I am celebrating my 33rd birthday with Delphine and our cat Toudou at home near LiĆØge, by the fireside in ultra cozy mode (we did not choose the name of the cat, I assure you! We received it with the house šŸ˜…). As you can imagine, this is not the most festive birthday of my life. Away from my friends and family, I can't wait for this crisis to be behind us. That's why I wanted to make this day a little more cheerful and share this special day with you as much as possible. So I created a special offer, valid only today and tomorrow, which allows you to get free shipping with the purchase of my new 2021 calendar. All you have to do is use coupon code HAPPYBIRTHDAY, et voilĆ !, wherever you live in the world, your order will be sent to you for free. On top of that, if you are interested in my Peaks of Europe book (which is currently available at 24,99ā‚¬ instead of 40ā‚¬ for a limited time), just add it to your cart, and as long as you buy at least one of my 2021 calendars, shipping will also be free. This year, I'm the one to offer you something for my own birthday! šŸ˜€ Just remember that this gift is only valid until tomorrow. Every order I receive means the world to me. Truly. I can assure you have no idea how much a simple order like this can affect a freelance artistā€™s life, especially in weird and unstable time like this. So, to those who will order the new calendars... THANK YOU! Really, it means a lot! https://shop.johanlolos.com
