class="content__text" A first look at what’s to come at TEFAF Maastricht in a week, from @Christophe_de_Quenetain. This “Louis XV Commode ‘de vernis a palmes riches’” by Antoine Robert Gaudreaus is an extremely important commode of the 18th century—the only other known example of this type is the commode held at the Residence Museum in Munich. Both commodes are examples of a crossover between Chinese creations through their inclusion of lacquer elements and the Parisian style exemplified by their shape and bronze. The commode was previously in the collection of the Prince de Ligne at the Castle of Beloeil, Belgium, and has undergone a restoration to the highest museum standard in 2022. class="content__text" A first look at what’s to come at TEFAF Maastricht this March, from @Colnaghi1760. A beautifully preserved 16th-century portrait of a young noblewoman in full court dress by Alonso Sánchez Coello. The work dates from the period when Coello was active as a painter for the Portuguese and Spanish royal families. The high lace ruff, tight collar, and richly embroidered black dress of the sitter, compare very closely with the costumes worn by other court figures painted by the artist during this time. This work was an important discovery as well as an important addition to Antiveduto Gramatica's œuvre. He was a prominent artist in 17th-century Italy and also one of the early followers of Caravaggio's style. This painting is the left part of a larger work with three characters—the work's right section is none other than “The Theorbo Player” kept at the Galleria Sabauda.
