En Ecuador, desde el terremoto del 2016 nos hemos sumado a esta iniciativa. Cambiando la realidad de muchas comunidades a nivel nacional. A few years ago we connected with the NGO @wavesforwater founded by @jon_rose . It slu goal is to transform people’s lives through filters that provide access to clean water without requiring technology. In Ecuador, since the 2016 earthquake we have joined this initiative. Changing the reality of many communities nationwide.

class="content__text" On Monday, May 1st, a tsunami-like flash flood surge came down the iconic surf town of Teahupoo’s usually calm river. The flash flood destroyed and damaged numerous houses, washed cars and appliances out into the pass, and left Teahupoo without power. ​ ​Often with disasters like this we at Waves For Water are on the ground providing immediate access to clean water. In this case a well coordinated response by the local surf community and the local authorities has already brought access to clean water and power back to those that need it, but there are still many other issues left to address. ​ ​As we’ve done with select natural disaster events in the past, we’ve decided to step up and go beyond our normal scope of work—leveraging our platform and network to help raise funds for a local Teahupoo based team that is helping families rebuild their lives from scratch. ​ ​This current phase our local partners will focus on the repair of damaged homes and community buildings, the replacement of essential household items, with an overall goal of restoring a bit of normalcy back into this beloved community. ​ ​If this effort resonates with you as much as it does with us, please consider donating…and if that’s not a viable option, just helping us spread the word is incredibly valuable too. ​ ​On behalf of the entire Waves For Water team, thank you!

class="content__text" There is a 50% infant mortality rate (due to waterborne illness) in many of the places we work around the world. That means roughly every other baby doesn’t make it. A sobering statistic. Fortunately, with the simple intervention of a water filtration system that statistic drastically changes. It’s not magic, just a technological process that can turn water that will hurt you into water that will help you. Simple as that. ​ ​Once this intervention is implemented there is a new trajectory for the recipients. Whether it’s now an infant being able to beat a staggering mortality statistic or just an uptick in school attendance because half the students aren’t out sick regularly from dysentery anymore, it’s significant. ​ ​This was a beautiful school that our team provided water filtration systems to in Bhutan last week. Performing a WASH (water, sanitation, & hygiene) intervention is always fun, but this one was especially good. class="content__text" Humble. I think that word best describes how of my first @flyforwater trip to Madagascar has left me feeling. The scope and beauty of Madagascar reminded me how small we are in the world, how challenging some of these missions can be, and how rewarding it is to see them through. The strength, resiliency, and warmth of the Malagasy people showed me of the true meaning to community. Being among them reminds one what it means to truly rely on one another and how important that is. I am, yet again, in awe of my incredible team at @wavesforwater and the @cleanwatercorps . Their talent and drive to make a difference in our world continues to push me beyond what I ever thought was possible. And finally I cannot be more thankful for @philipgqueffelec , @noemierosenthal , and our partners at @sparfellaviation for their drive and vision. class="content__text" No matter how many times I’ve seen the aftermath of a natural disasters, I’m still blown away by it. The sheer power and catastrophic loss is unmatched. Case in point, the building in the first photo used to be three stories—the bottom story collapsed in the quake, crushing the van with it. ​ ​Our Waves For Water CWC team has been hard at work in both Türkiye and Syria since the quakes struck in early Feb. ​ ​It’s been humbling, to say the least. Most of the houses we’ve seen in this region, for example, are fully compromised and will need to be torn down. Families are currently living in their yards, in tents, with most creating a common kitchen shared between 2-3 families. We deployed filter systems using a 2-tent per filter strategy to maximize our impact since families are already using a shared space for drinking water. ​ ​We have more rounds of work planned in the coming months and are incredibly grateful to our partners, such as @dockerskhakis , for continuing their support of this program. #wavesforwater #w4wturkey #cleanwater #cleanwatercorps ​

class="content__text" Notes from CWC Turkey Team Lead Ashley Sogge. From the Field: “The CWC recently assessed a community of 200 Syrian refugees near the Syrian border, and the results were concerning. The encampment is largely dependent on contaminated well water for their daily needs. To address this urgent issue, we distributed multiple filtration systems and trained the community how to collect rainwater in addition to filtering the well water. Our partner, Aerial Recovery Group, conducted medical assessments and distributed aid kits to those in need. The village of Garantas has absorbed a large number of Syrian refugees in recent weeks, and overcrowding has led to worsening hygiene conditions in and around the village. Providing clean drinking water can make a critical difference in the living conditions of those affected. class="content__text" Field notes from our @cleanwatercorps team currently on the ground in Türkiye: "Today was a solid day. We spent weeks analyzing government water testing data to identify sites in rural areas outside of Antakya that desperately needed water filters. With the help of a community organizer in the area, we were able to implement 22 filters, to support 380 people in this region.⁠ ​⁠ ​One of the primary reasons we targeted this specific area was due to disproportionately high levels of Chlorophyll in the well water. We knew that by providing filters, we could make a significant impact. ​⁠ ​We also trained two community organizers as master trainers to ensure that our impact would sustain. It was inspiring to see how eager the local community was to learn about the filter system and its maintenance. It's truly a testament to the resilience and determination of the human spirit.⁠ ​⁠ ​One of the most fulfilling moments of this project was seeing how our filter training sessions enabled ARG's medical mission. Their nurse was able to address medical concerns in all of the communities we worked with, and it was humbling to see first hand the positive impact that our efforts are having on people's lives.⁠ ​⁠ ​I'm incredibly proud of our team's hard work and dedication to this project. class="content__text" Our Turkey/Syria pilot team is hard at work. Lou and Ashley, working with Arial Recovery Group and World Central Kitchen, have identified multiple urban and rural communities where our program can provide much needed access to clean water. Here are the field notes: “CWC Team met with the World Central Kitchen’s WASH director in Adana and identified several partner organizations to assist with water filtration. CWC traveled to Antakya to meet with one of the field kitchen teams from WCK, Water Mission and Global Medic. Water Mission and WCK shared crucial government water testing data that identified sites with only biological contamination after the earthquakes. Based on these findings, CWC traveled to Iskendurun to assess an NGO-run camp and identified an immediate need for clean water. The organization, Iskader, was still building the camp and confirmed the need for clean water.
