⛔️CREATIVE BLOCK🤚🏼 ⛔️😞🎨 Lets talk about mental health and being a creative! Crikey it’s bloody HARD people!! I have had creative blocks in the past…Sometimes it feels like being on a conveyor belt generating ideas and keeping up with the algorithm. Maybe you are trying to forge your creative style or exhausted, health challenges, anxiety, or wish you could be more creative… here are 5 ways to combat ⛔️CREATIVE BLOCK ⛔️😣 1. 🐛🦋SET A CREATIVE ROUTINE: Ring fence a sacred time for this, it’s like a date with your creativity. It could be 1 hour on a Sunday, even when you don’t feel like it, every week. By making it a routine instead of a discipline, it will start to flow more naturally. 2. 🐛🦋HOARD IDEAS: Pinterest is your friend. Pin a few random ideas like colour swatches, textures, images, a period in history and a piece of art. This will build an overall concept you can create from. 🐛🦋3. CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT: Working from home is getting old, get out there. 😷Go to a new inspiring place like a museum or exhibition you have never been to, go for a walk. 4. 🐛🦋LEARN SOMETHING NEW: The only way to grow is to continue learning. Take a class, a workshop, learn a new skill, this will open doors to new ways of working. I took a class on Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing ceramic with gold) to inspire my Fine China headdress class. Completely unrelated to makeup & props but inspired a new creation and class for you guys. 🦋🐛5. LONG SHOWER: I get my best ideas in the shower. Showers are a safe place that provides a dopamine high, relaxed state, and distracted mind allowing ideas to flow. ❌x3 SFX MAKEUP MISTAKES which can RUIN a makeup!! ❌ 🦋1. NOT using the correct glue! (Don’t use spirit gum! This can irritate the skin, it goes white when you sweat and it crumbles when you move your face!) Instead, use an acrylic based adhesive because it’s more gentle on the skin, sticks longer and is easier to remove 🦋2. NOT capturing your work correctly by using terrible lighting and editing software. You don’t need an expensive set up! I use my phone! But you DO need to know how to edit your work for video format to show it off the best it can look. 🦋3. NOT getting started because you think it’s an expensive sport. I used PAPER for these butterflies! Anyone who is looking at this post on a mobile phone can afford PAPER. 👉🏻Which one is your favourite? 1-8❓let me know in the comments below 🦋🙏🏼My latest wearable art Fine China / Delft Headpiece & makeup is the 9th makeup in this series (starting in 2018). I think this is a theme I will continue to evolve and work on until I die. It’s a blend of two completely different disciplines in art, makeup and ceramic, which fuse together in such a fun way. I like to think of the skin the same as a beautiful ceramic surface we can paint and express our selves on. Makeup is the alchemy which transforms our self expression into wearable art, it’s the creative therapy and the cosmetic kintsugi of the soul in my opinion. Whether that be a lick of mascara for the school drop off or using makeup as a medium of digital performance and content creation, it is still vital and always will be. What theme shall I do next for the fine China series? Best suggestion gets pinned.
