class="content__text" Did you know that Mother Armenia's (sculptor: Ara Harutyunyan) monument was installed in 1967 to replace Stalin's monument (removed back in 1962)?! The Monument of Mother Armenia (architect: Rafael Israelyan, 1950) is considered to be the guardian of the Armenian capital. The monument's pedestal is a closed structure constructed from black tuff. The inner structure refers to traditional three-naved Armenian basilicas. Look for the monument complex in Victory Park, and make sure to visit a Military Museum documenting Armenian involvement in WW2 and the Nagorno-Karabakh bloody war of the 1990s. Initially, these buildings were supposed to form an octagonal square. However, the complex was left unfinished and only two buildings were constructed. class="content__text" Did you know that this is the replica of a memorial fountain which you can find in Carrara, a city in Italy? 😌 In 1967 the memorial, which symbolizes the friendship between Armenian and Italian people, was transferred to Carrara with the sign on it: “In segno di fraternità Erevan Carrara”. The original white marble "The Hands" statue was brought to Armenia from an Italian city Carrara representing the friendship between the two twinned cities- Yerevan, the capital of Armenia and Carrara, Italy. In response, Yerevan sent the people of Carrara the model of memorial fountain made of tufa, and decorated with Armenian motifs. Thememorial was made by well-known Armenian sculptor Ara Harutyunyan and arcitect Rafael Israelyan.
