class="content__text" Details 🤩 Sharks have specific pigmentation to help them camouflage called counter shading. This is when the shark is dark on the top, dorsal side, and lighter on their underside, or ventral side. Countershading helps them to blend in with the darkness of the ocean bottom when viewed from above and vice versa. Shark skin is composed of dermal denticles; tiny tooth-shaped plaques along their bodies. Making them hydrodynamic, meaning that they move through the water very efficiently. Shark skin can become “tanner” if they spend more time at the surface because it contains the pigment melanin that increases in direct response to radiation. Many of our local sharks also have scarring that looks very bright on their bodies and could interrupt their countershading. Usually scarring is caused by boat strikes or confrontations with other sharks. We use all these characteristics and more to identify and name sharks for our Photo ID System. You can even adopt your own shark and name it based off of its unique characteristics! Check out our “Adopt A Shark” link on our website📍 Come check out the many details of Galapagos sharks up close by booking a dive with us today! 🤙🏽 📹 @faithwfins #sharkskin #sharkdetails #sharkbiology #fearintofascination #apexpredatorNOTmonster #love #sharks #sharklove #education #conservation #research #sharksarefriends #saynoto #sharkfishing #no #sharkculling #stop #sharkmeat #protectsharks #malamamanō #manō #hawaii #oahu #divewithsharks #sharkdiving #shark #helpsavesharks #oneocean #sharkid_faith

class="content__text" Aren’t Galapagos Sharks just so dreamy 🦈🤩💙 Here’s 5 facts you may not have known about these beautiful sharks, but will learn when out on a dive with us: 🦈 Galapagos have a sleek and slender body with two dorsal fins. They are brownish grey on top and lighter underneath 🦈 You can always tell which sharks are more dominant by how dark the topside of them are. This means that they swim closer to the surface and actually tan. 🦈 Galapagos can weigh up to 430lbs 🦈 Their main food source consists of dwelling bony fish and cephalopods. When they get larger in size, they are known to feed on marine iguana, sea lions and even other sharks 🦈 When needed, they can push their stomachs out through their mouth and dislodge whatever is bugging them and suck their stomachs right back in The more you know! Learn more about sharks and their behavior our on a dive with us 🦈 Book today at oneoceandiving.com 📹: @alyssalohaaa #oneocean #oneoceandiving #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanconservation #oneoceaneducation #oneoceanglobal #savethesharks #savetheocean #sharkdive #marineconservation #oahu #savetheseaturtles #oceanlover #oahuhawaii #marinewildlife #oahutour #sharktour #sharkid_alyssa

class="content__text" 5 Ways to Help #SaveSharks 🦈 1. Learn As Much As You Can About Sharks: The most important thing you can do to help sharks is learn about sharks and how different human activities put them in jeopardy. By educating yourself on the current conservation issues facing sharks and marine life you can more accurately share this information with others and hopefully inspire others to also speak up for sharks! 2. Do Not Use or Buy Shark Products: Obviously a great place to start is by not consuming any shark meat. However, there are more products than just shark meat on the market. Shark cartilage and oils are found in a range of products from beauty items (sometimes called squalene) to nutrition supplements. Always check your labels on pet food, meat, menus, and beauty products. 3. Reduce or Stop Your Seafood Consumption: Commercial fishing negatively impacts sharks and marine life in many ways. It reduces the populations of their food sources, especially sharks and animals that rely on bony fish as their primary food source. Sharks are also often killed as a byproduct of commercial fishing (referred to as bycatch.) 4. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Another threat to sharks and other marine species is trash and other pollution. With the massive plastic gyres around the world sharks and other marine life can mistake garbage for food or become entangled in floating debris. Plastic is also often consumed by the marine species that sharks eat, So sharks will eventually consume non-food products which can lead to illness and death. 5. Go Diving With Sharks🦈: Shark diving is a great way to protect local shark species. Governments and locals alike are much more likely to set up conservation zones wherever sharks bring tourism revenue into an area. Book your shark dive with us today to learn more about shark biology, behavior, and conservation techniques!💙 📹 @faithwfins #sharksafety #sharks #divewithsharks #hawaii #oahu #swimwithsharks #savethesharks #sharkscience #safety #diving #freediving #offshore #pelagic #marinelife #ocean #conservation #research #education #oneocean #helpsavesharks #savesharks #savemarinelife #sharkfacts #sharkid_faith

class="content__text" Say hi to #sharkidfuki 👋🏼 we left the music out so you can hear the real music of the whales singing in the background 🐋 The winter time brings all sorts of creatures to our charters, but yesterday we were blessed with Fuki and whale songs 💙🦈 As you can see, Fuki has a cropped caudal fin which is the result of negative human interaction (most likely fishing or finning). His unfortunate injury does make him easy to identify and has been documented in our Shark ID database so that we can point him out and recognize him. Ask your safety diver what sharks they recognize on your next charter so you can see which ones have already been added to our database 🦈✔️ 📹 @mermaidmariahh #oneocean #oneoceandiving #oneoceanglobal #savethesharks #savetheocean #sharkdive #marineconservation #oahu #savetheseaturtles #oceanlover #oahuhawaii #marinewildlife #oahutour #sharktour #sharkid_jordan

class="content__text" POV: facing your fears Our goal at One Ocean is to give you an experience that will shift your perspective on how you view sharks and marine conservation. Most of the time you’ll hear “go vegan!” As a way to conserve marine life. However, this option is not always accessible to all people. Simple changes like using reef safe/zinc sunscreen, throwing away trash you find on the shore, and eating locally caught fish will have a positive impact on marine life 🐠 The Hollywood industry and now social media have an ability to influence people’s perspectives. These movies are what drive some to actively hunt and kill sharks for being “human killers” when they are not. We strive to spread awareness, no matter if you get in the water or stay on the boat💙 On our tours you can see how peaceful the open ocean can be! #oneocean #oneoceandiving #hiring #workwithus #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanconservation #oneoceaneducation #oneoceanglobal #savethesharks #savetheocean #sharkdive #marineconservation #oahu #savetheseaturtles #oceanlover #oahuhawaii #marinewildlife #oahutour #sharktour #sharkidtrinity

class="content__text" FAQ: How Many Sharks Will We See? This is a hard question since we are the mercy of the ocean and cannot control wild animals 🌊 We can guarantee that you will see a shark while you are in the water or we will issue a full refund! However, we cannot guarantee how many or what species will be present as the environment is constantly changing. Scalloped Hammerheads are critically endangered and very rare, however this charter we got lucky! 🤩 The average number of sharks seen per trip ranges from: 3-20 sandbar sharks, 2-15 galapgaos Sharks, 1 if a tiger shark is present (seen on average once a month), 1-4 scalloped hammerheads are seen (more rare than the tiger sharks), Whale sharks, great white sharks (white sharks), mako sharks, silky sharks, oceanic White tips, oceanic Black tips have all been observed while on our trips. However, these sharks are EXTREMELY rare and cannot be seen on a regular basis.🦈 Book a dive with us today to gain a unique wildlife experience diving offshore with various species of sharks✨ 📹 @faithwfins #scallopedhammerhead #hammerhead #shark #sharkspecies #sharks #sharklover #sharkdiving #sharkdive #hawaii #oahu #pelagic #marinelife #blessed #respect #apexpredatornotmonster #hammerheadshark #wildlife #ecotourism #ecotour #wildlifetour #oneocean #conservation #education #research #sharkid_faith

class="content__text" 📹+💬: @oceanramsey MY SHARK TEACHERS 🦈📖 Series Book #1 is now out!!!!!! 23 life lessons ANYONE could find useful for a better life in 2023! Lessons inspired by over 20+ years of growing up with sharks who have been evolving for over 400 million years, there is so much we can learn from them and they have certainly shaped my life and the core of who I am. I’ve been working on this book for 2+ years and really wanted to goal out releasing this first book of my new series before the new year to maximize the benefit to the community for a new year. I’ve been called the shark teacher, because I’ve taught so many people about sharks, so I wanted this book to honor of my shark teachers, the sharks who raised me to be my strongest shark self. I didn’t have a human teacher to guide me as I learned their lessons, but I am grateful to have been able to put myself in a position to pass those lessons on for a good cause and I am so grateful for your support in furthering education for conservation and safety. I hope that this book with lead to more good in peoples lives and that it might inspire more kindness for nonhuman animals as well. ❤️🦈 I hope you love it, I cannot wait to see your comments and please tag me in photos if you end up getting it as I want to repost and share your experiences. 📖🦈📸🤳 All proceeds from the sale of this book go directly to the nonprofit @juansharks mother founded. 🐢🦈🪸 I can never thank my shark teachers enough for their lessons, 🙏❤️🦈 and I hope you enjoy the book and the media for the book we will be putting out soon. 🎥🦈❤️ . class="content__text" What do you do if there are sharks approaching you? This a frequently asked question not only out on charters, but also by beach-goers, swimmers, and divers! The first step is to turn and face the shark that is approaching you. Sharks do not have any sound-producing organ, thus they rely heavily through body language to communicate! Therefore facing a shark instead of turning away is KEY 🔑 After you face the shark, make eye contact with it. This establishes you as an equal predator, not unaware prey in the water column. Always be looking around; do not focus in one shark if there are many swimming around you. Be constantly aware of your surroundings. If a shark approaches you, they are likely to be competing for dominance in the water column. Thus, they are a dominant individual. Always take note of a dominant shark because they may approach again. Sharks are not monsters; but they are important and highly capable apex predators in our oceans. These are simple guidelines, however there is ALWAYS more to learn when diving with these creatures. Please only dive with trained professional safety divers; such as our team here at One Ocean Diving all trained by @oceanramsey and @juansharks 🦈 We do not need to fear sharks, but we do need to respect them 💙 If you want to learn more, check out Ocean Ramsey’s new book “My Shark Teachers” to learn more about these beautiful animals🤙🏽📖 available now on Amazon 📹 @faithwfins 🧜🏻‍♀️ @mermaidmariahh #savesharks #sharkfacts #sharks #oneocean #sharktour #sharkdiving #ocean #wildlife #marinelife #saveourseas #apexpredatorNOTmonster #respect #sharklove #marineconservation #faith

class="content__text" Let’s Talk Conservation 🦈 The “why” behind everything we do here at One Ocean Diving is to change people’s opinions about sharks in order to spread awareness and inspire conservation efforts for these amazing apex predators. The biggest way to get involved in shark conservation is to be their voice. Speak up and raise awareness for sharks around the world. Write to local politicians, restaurants, stores, and companies who kill, buy, sell, or ship shark fins and byproducts and those companies who offer shark fishing or sponsor shark fishing tournaments. Try to eliminate your plastic use, get involved in beach clean ups, and educate those around you. Learn more about the biology, safety, importance, and conservation of sharks by coming on a dive with a shark safety specialist here at One Ocean Diving. If you cannot join us on a dive or you just want to learn a lot more check out Ocean Ramsey’s book: “What You Should Know About Sharks” or her online course via links in our bio/website. 🧜🏻‍♀️ @faithwfins 📹👩🏼‍🏫 @mermaidmariahh 📹🧑🏽‍🏫 @just_in_free_zen 📹 @brebythesea 📹 @mevans283 #oneocean #oneoceandiving #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanconservation #oneoceaneducation #oneoceanglobal #savethesharks #savetheocean #sharkdive #marineconservation #oahu #savetheseaturtles #oceanlover #oahuhawaii #marinewildlife #oahutour #sharktour #faith
