Their cultures were completely different, but the more they learned about each other the more they realised how aligned they really were. This is @klaus0m and @kamaldalal123 #LoveStory. Jab We Met: We met at an after-party in London. I found him to be unlike anyone I had met before. He had pursued his passion for plant-based nutrition by setting up @plantbasednews. We somehow stayed out partying until 4am with my best friend and sister in tow! This Is It Moment: It was when he first spoke over video call to my grandmother Dr. Tanumati Shah. She was a leading gynaecologist and the first woman to be awarded a scholarship to attend G.S. Medical College in Mumbai in 1945. I remember her being impressed by his simplicity, discipline and compassion, and I knew then that our values were aligned, even though our families were culturally different. The Proposal: On a summer’s day while walking around Hyde Park, we decided on getting married in an intimate ceremony. We wanted to wait until Klaus had met my grandmother in India, but Covid restrictions made that impossible, and after she sadly passed away earlier this year aged 98 we decided to press ahead, knowing that we had her blessings. A Cherished Memory: There are so many small moments that I would love to experience again. For instance, the day that Klaus bought me my first bike and took me around the streets of London. Or learning acroyoga together. Or the beautiful balmy night when our families first met, and we walked around Hyde Park laughing and sharing stories. What Makes It Special: Equality and shared values lie at the heart of our love story. This was reflected in our Indian wedding ceremony, which was conducted by the UK’s first female Hindu/Jain priest @chandavyas and incorporated our values into the rituals. She loved everything about her life but was still waiting for real love. Jab We Met: My first date with Kim was a “quick drink” that turned into a three-hour dinner. I was impressed by his confidence and humility. He had deep knowledge about many cultures, and talked about his godchildren. Plus, his wit made me understand what “laugh out loud” really meant. I was smitten! This Is It Moment: One month into dating, Kim went back home to Sweden. On the date of our one-month anniversary, he surprised me with a dozen roses and a note that made me happy cry for the first time in my life. We still celebrate every monthly dating anniversary. The Proposal: We started with a surprise shopping excursion where I got to change into a new dress and a pair of shoes. An elegant hotel bar with a rooftop view and great snack mix came next. I thought the evening was done. But we then had an amazing dinner at world class restaurant Alinea. On the way home, he asked the cab driver to pull over, got me out of the car, and then proposed at the spot where we had our first date, exactly at midnight 18 months after our first date. A Cherished Memory: Our wedding. Kim is Swedish, and we are both blessed with close friends from around the world. Our reimagined pandemic style wedding was an intimate group of 10 by Lake Michigan with another 200 on Zoom representing 24 countries. We can’t wait to safely celebrate with all. What Makes It Special: I’m an Indian-America woman who happily married a wonderful Swedish-Finnish-American man at 47. We help show love is global, love can happen at any time in life, and love will win in all times. So much of who we are as partners is about exploring cultures -and uniting them together.
