Jab We Met: We met at an after-party in London. I found him to be unlike anyone I had met before. He had pursued his passion for plant-based nutrition by setting up @plantbasednews. We somehow stayed out partying until 4am with my best friend and sister in tow! This Is It Moment: It was when he first spoke over video call to my grandmother Dr. Tanumati Shah. She was a leading gynaecologist and the first woman to be awarded a scholarship to attend G.S. Medical College in Mumbai in 1945. I remember her being impressed by his simplicity, discipline and compassion, and I knew then that our values were aligned, even though our families were culturally different. The Proposal: On a summer’s day while walking around Hyde Park, we decided on getting married in an intimate ceremony. We wanted to wait until Klaus had met my grandmother in India, but Covid restrictions made that impossible, and after she sadly passed away earlier this year aged 98 we decided to press ahead, knowing that we had her blessings. A Cherished Memory: There are so many small moments that I would love to experience again. For instance, the day that Klaus bought me my first bike and took me around the streets of London. Or learning acroyoga together. Or the beautiful balmy night when our families first met, and we walked around Hyde Park laughing and sharing stories. What Makes It Special: Equality and shared values lie at the heart of our love story. This was reflected in our Indian wedding ceremony, which was conducted by the UK’s first female Hindu/Jain priest @chandavyas and incorporated our values into the rituals.
