class="content__text" Here’s the process video of my latest reclaimed vase! This shampoo bottle lasted me an entire year and instead of throwing it in the recycling bin hoping it gets recycled, I decided to give it a second life as a cool painted vase. I keep searching for quality shampoo that comes in plastic free packaging without luck. Until I find a good alternative, I’ll continue buying a big 1L bottle instead of multiples and make it last for the next 12 months 😅 I used: bull’s-eye primer (the most important step!) golden acrylic paints and a couple of coats of liquitex satin varnish. Idk how people who play the game deal with it? My gaming experienced stopped with Mario, Peach and Bowser and those never gave me nightmares 😝 The shade comes with love and respect for such a good story and show though. class="content__text" Here’s a non-comprehensive roundup of a few reclaimed plastic vases I painted last year! I’m proud to say I’m perfecting my technique! A couple of these vases have already been sold but when I have a few more I will list them on my website. My 2023 lineup is 🔥 More than 90% of the plastic we ‘recycle’ worldwide (the numbers are even worse in 🇨🇦 😭) actually end up on a landfill and don’t get recycled. Obviously reducing our plastic consumption is top priority and we should all make an effort but let’s face it, it’s not always easy or available to everyone to avoid plastic all together. Instead of waiting to be perfect, I’m imperfectly showing up with the skills 🎨 that I have, one plastic bottle at a time! Just watch episode 3 of The Last Of Us and try and convince me a robot could have written that. Artists make art because we are passionate about it. Robots make art because…they can? class="content__text" I’m using art to help the planet, one bottle at a time. Only 8% and 6% of plastics in 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇸, respectively, get recycled. These vases are all made from reclaimed plastic bottles, primed, painted and sealed by me. My hope is to raise awareness of the huge amount of waste we produce each year and find creative ways to reuse what we typically discard. I know a handful of bottles might not make a huge impact but it’s better than the status quo. Some of these vases will be available for sale soon!
