class="content__text" Your hair should not be used to determine whether you are qualified for employment. Bias against natural hair and protective styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots can impact how #BlackWomen navigate the hiring process. The CROWN 2023 Workplace Research Study found that "2/3 of Black women modify their hair during a job interview, and among them, 41% switch from curly to straight hair." This is unacceptable! @Dove and @LinkedIn want to hear from you. What has your experience been with wearing your hair in a protective style or in its natural state at work? Help us raise awareness about hair discrimination and microaggression by sharing your hair story on #LinkedIn. Show us how you rock your CROWN at work by including your photo in your story. class="content__text" Inequitable treatment of Black women due to their hair texture and protective style is still a persistent issue in the workplace. Black women frequently encounter hair bias and microaggressions in both the hiring process and while on the clock. According to the new "CROWN 2023 Workplace Research Study," Black women’s hair is 2.5 times more likely to be perceived as unprofessional. 2/3 of Black women change their hair for a job interview, and amongst them, 41% change their hair from curly to straight. Associating Black textured hair and protective styles with being unkempt, unpolished, and distracting in the workplace is discriminatory. While #TheCROWNAct provides legal protections against hair discrimination in some states, there is still work to be done. In an effort to make the work environment more inclusive, @Dove and @LinkedIn partnered in support of passing the CROWN Act.
