class="content__text" Merci beaucoup, @createurs_design_awards! We had an amazing time in Paris celebrating great design and designers at the Créateurs Design Awards this past weekend. Jeanne was honored with the Prix Charlotte Perriand, named for the trailblazing French architect. In accepting the award, Jeanne observed, “Charlotte Perriand’s work is defined by her commitment to use design to make life better for everyone. I hope that, through my own work, I can in turn help another generation of architects see the values inherent in her work: the importance of design that is inclusive, that inspires a sense of wonder, that helps people come together.” Congratulations to all this year’s winners! class="content__text" Honor Roll! 11 Hoyt, our first residential tower in Brooklyn, has received a 2023 Honor Award – the AIA NY @CenterforArch Design Award’s highest level of recognition! Our design transforms a former parking garage into a tower anchored by an elevated green podium that acts as the “fifth facade” of the building, increasing the project’s sustainability while encouraging neighbors to meet and interact among trees, gardens, and other amenities. The project’s connection between inside and outside is furthered by the tower’s thickened, inhabitable façade, which creates expanded living spaces with built-in window seats that frame eight-foot-tall windows offering views of the neighborhood, waterfront, and the building’s sculptural exterior. As the all-star jury noted, @11hoytbk is “a tall building that pushes the envelope” citing our innovative façade system, integration of green space, and energy performance data as key elements that helped the project stand out. We’re proud to share this award with our wonderful team of collaborators, including @hillwestarchitects @hollander_design @michaelisboyd, and our client @tishmanspeyer. Image: @tomharrisphotography

class="content__text" We’re sharing footage from this year’s Honey Harvest, arguably the sweetest time of the year at Studio Gang! For us, building relationships between people and the environment is central to our design approach, and the transformation of our Chicago Studio was no exception. Our rooftop “sky island” is a thriving habitat of regionally appropriate prairie plants and biodiverse species and also serves as a living laboratory where we come together to learn, gather, enjoy the garden’s sweet returns! Over the years, our partnership with the Chicago Honey Co-op @chicagohoneycoop allows us to yield over 40 pounds of honey a year, in what has become an annual Honey Harvest tradition at Studio Gang. 🐝🍯

class="content__text" This week, we celebrated Studio Gang’s first completed project in Europe! It was wonderful collaborating with @kroonenberggroep, @neoo_amsterdam and our associate architect @rijnbouttnl on this project. Q Residences is a mixed-use community at a key intersection in Amsterdam-Zuid. Located in the heart of Buitenveldert— one of the last garden cities in the capital—the project draws on the neighborhood’s relaxed, verdant atmosphere to establish a dense yet comfortable living environment. Q Residences consists of two new distinct building volumes – a 23-floor high-rise named Quartz and an eight-floor mid-rise named Qube – linked by a new public plaza where residence can enjoy art and greenery year round. "We designed Q Residences to strengthen residents’ connection to each other and to the ample green spaces that define Buitenveldert,” said Jeanne Gang. “At ground level, Qube and Quartz form a new generous public plaza that brings people together around art and landscape. And on Quartz, the balconies migrate in and out of the façade to extend sightlines diagonally in all directions and allow residents be part of the building and in synch with the city and each other at the same time.” 📸: @keeshummelfotografie

class="content__text" For the seventh year running, women from Studio Gang supported a great cause (and had fun along the way!) as part of #CHIWomenBuild. Women Build is an annual fundraising and homebuilding event organized by @habitatchicago that confronts the barriers to home ownership uniquely faced by women. This year, 11 of us from Studio Gang joined over 540 women to raise over $450,000 and advance the construction of houses in Chicago’s West Pullman and Greater Grand Crossing neighborhoods. Learn more about Women Build via the link in our bio and consider supporting them today.

class="content__text" Three cheers – wait, no, *four* cheers - for the St Regis Chicago! Our design for Chicago’s third tallest building took home four awards at this month’s @ctbuh_hq 2022 Awards of Excellence. In addition to winning the category “Best Tall Building 300-399 meters” it also took home the Audience Award for that same category, as well as for the “Best Tall Mixed Use Building” and “Best Tall Building Americas.” Our design for St. Regis Chicago asks, “What if skyscrapers can be porous connectors, rather than barriers, for the public realm?” We’re grateful to CTBUH for recognizing the importance of tall buildings acting as good neighbors within their cities – both by providing healthy spaces to live and by enhancing public space for everyone. class="content__text" Glimpses within, around, and above 11 Hoyt in Brooklyn, New York. “We designed 11 Hoyt from the inside out, looking to give residents great natural light, views, and spacious interiors, even in dense Downtown Brooklyn. We looked for ways to bring green spaces and biodiverse nature to the neighborhood, which it has traditionally lacked. New plantings at street level add green to the public way, and the elevated garden landscape atop the podium provides a place where residents can build community and enjoy the outdoors, as well as habitat for wildlife and rainwater retention.” – Jeanne Gang, founding principal and partner, Studio Gang 11 Hoyt is designed by @StudioGang with interiors by @MichaelisBoyd and landscape by @hollander_design #11Hoyt

class="content__text" “For Gang, the way forward lies in thinking more expansively—not in terms of square footage, and not just about building, but about architecture itself.” Proud to share that @wsjmag has recognized Jeanne as 2022’s Architecture Innovator for shining a light on the power of architecture to bring people closer to the natural world—and to each other. As The Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at @amnh nears completion, Jeanne spoke with @samedford about actionable idealism, which describes our commitment to drawing on design's ability to build public awareness and awaken change towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
