I always like to use use simple patterns to build my drumming. This groove is built using a group of 7 notes - R L L R L R L - looped around over and over and orchestrated around the kit. The majority of the tom fills here use the 'Herta' pattern - RLR L - nothing crazier than that. I believe that focusing on vocabulary and pattern recognition is key for developing your creative side as a drummer. At least, that's always been my method of choice and it's played a tremendous part in building my career as a full time drummer since several years. One of my first fill lessons ever. 🤯 I've been making short fill & groove lessons for about 8 years now, in some shape or form. The idea has always been to just play and explain the fill quickly with my drumming and without any unnecessary talking. This idea has existed in a lot of formats, but this "fill of the day" approach was the first one that gained me recognition online and in turn led to the drum career I have today.
