Following the motion I moved earlier on the floor of the House concerning the killings of some of my constituents during the last Eid al-Fitr, the House Committee on Customs today held an investigative hearing with the officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and members of the Iseyin Community who gave accounts of the sad occurrence. As stated in my motion, I consider the hearing necessary and I am so delighted about it. It is a necessity that aligns with my legislative and leadership philosophy. It also serves as a reaffirmation of my firm commitment towards giving my people purposeful representation and ensuring that we as the representatives of the people fulfill our primary obligation of protecting the lives and properties of our people. Though we cannot restore lost lives, I remain committed to ensuring that justice is done and that the families of the victims are compensated. #voiceofthecommonman

Last week, members of the Youth Progressive Forum (YPF) in the All Progressives Congress (APC) visited my office. I was so delighted to receive them, as we had a very engaging discussion that bordered on the future of leadership: the role of the youths. It was said that for Nigeria to be better, something has to change. Before we start talking about rebuilding Nigeria, we have to rebuild our political system. And we can't rebuild our political system if we refuse to get involved in politics. It is by getting involved in politics that we can present more than enough credible candidates to scale through to general elections, otherwise, we'll be forced to end up settling for incompetent candidates as our leaders. As youths, we should join one of the viable political parties now and make our impact felt positively more so as it concerns presenting candidates for the 2023 general elections. I'm proud and very happy to associate myself with progressive youth movements. The youth occupy the largest percentage of Nigeria's population, and so we should have a major stake in deciding who become our leaders. This can only be possible if we join a viable political party and make our influence felt positively in the leadership structure of such party. It is a good one that some youth movements like YPF are already mobilizing and positioning themselves strategically in their political party ahead of 2023. Other young Nigerians should take a leaf from this, do the needful by joining a viable political party, and positioning themselves well to take over in 2023. The time is ripe for us to lead. #WeMove

Listen to what Zahrah Mustapha Audu said last week when she and her team paid me a courtesy visit. It’s so spot on! It's high time for young people to invest their time, resources, energy, and creativity in rebuilding Nigeria. They must learn to elect good leaders. Get involved in political processes because elections are won by the majority and youths occupy over 70% of the nation's population. So, young persons must invest time and commitment as success doesn’t come for free.

I rejoice with fellow Muslim brothers and sisters both home and abroad on the occasion of this year Eid al-Adha celebration. As we probably know, Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his only son, Ismail, to God in fulfilment of his promise and as an act of obedience to God's command. As Mulsims, today is a pious day for us all, and so we should leverage on it to seek God's forgiveness, mercy and to pray fervently for peace to reign in our dear country. Also, as we pray for peace to reign, we should remember that Islam preaches peaceful coexistence of mankind, and so we should always be tolerant of others irrespective of their religious, political and ethnic beliefs. In the same vein, we shouldn't forget that for our country and the world at large to be peaceful, we have to play our part individually by treating others the way we will like to be treated. Don’t say or do unto others what you cannot take. I pray that Allah accepts our prayers, bless us with good health, wealth and makes us successful in all our endeavours. Ameen.
