class="content__text" Last week, we announced the previously unthinkable feat of recording the first billion naira grossing film in the West African territory. . Black Panther Wakanda Forever has produced for us a trio of unforgettable achievements by having the first ever major studio-backed release event, the highest grossing film of all time and the first film to cross the once unfathomable billion naira mark (all in West Africa), which was made more of an ordeal due to the setback of the pandemic. . This is to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone that has contributed to this win for the Entertainment sector in Nigeria especially the Cinema Guest, Cinema Companies and the incredible team at The Filmhouse Group. Selling close to 400k tickets in less than 75 locations across 20+ states over a 9 week period is no ordinary undertaking in these times. . After 2 gruelling years dampened by the pandemic and a vastly changing landscape, the sector needed this triumph, and we are just proud to play a part. . This feat is made all the more remarkable because of the storms faced to get here. The spectacular showpiece that was the Fifa World Cup started a week after the film released. It rained in November and early December, fuel scarcity ran for weeks, and there was a very competitive film release schedule. Yet Wakanda Forever opened to stunning results, including grossing N300m in December and will gross 100m this January. As of the time of this post, the film has grossed N1,019,323,511 (I predicted N1,050,000,000 for its final tally. . My colleague @linda_chekwube and I worked on this reel together to show the journey of how we got here. You mentioned some heavyweights on the project you were to embark on, and Madam Peace was one of them, not knowing there were other plans for you both. Steve Osagie - How i wish I could take back the hands of time and hook up with you and our sons for a game of football we talked about on the phone last September. It's still tough to accept that I won't hear from the selfless ambassador of Nigerian and African entertainment again. Thank you for believing and supporting the cause when it was tough to do. Sammie Okposo - Thank you, Sir, for blessing us with your great gift both in Ministry and Motion Picture. Peace Anyiam Osigwe - Madam Peace!
