class="content__text" I’m outraged that Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill banning drag shows in public on Thursday. Since the dawn of recorded history humans have been playing with the idea of gender identity both in theater and in a variety of creative mediums. Drag shows are joyous events and they’ve helped many find a place of refuge and are a form of self expression. Drag is art. Drag is performance. Drag influences us and is an important form of expression. I fear more the lawmakers who are so puritanical and maniacal than I ever would a drag performer. The shame is ours.
