class="content__text"“Beginnings are my favourite. Everything is conjecture, fantasy, and full of feeling. You don’t know what’s coming yet.” Those were Brit Marling's words written on the cover of the very first issue of Violet, ten years ago. I had just left my first magazine creation, Lula, which had felt like all of me, and was beginning my next, Violet. On that first shoot I was pregnant with my daughter Astrid but I didn’t know it yet. I am so grateful to have Violet as a lens through which to view and try to understand the world. I am so grateful to be able to explore and curate and create. Brit was the first face of Violet, and she really embodied what I wanted the magazine to be. She had made Another Earth, The East and The Sound of My Voice, and was creating work that made me so excited and doing so in a way that felt so different to what and how things were. @amandadecadenet photographed her and interviewed her the way only Amanda can. For this issue ten years later, the three of us came together again. That first day together, I was obsessed with Brit being a director. I talked about this to her a lot (relentless). Ten years later, we are celebrating her directorial debut and Violet’s 10th Birthday. At the same time. Both monumental achievements, I think. Making Violet isn’t always easy. It is a huge labour of love. There are so many amazing women who help to create Violet, and who share their stories, their artistry, their ideas. I’m going to list as many as I can in the comments below. Thank you. Thank you to all of the brands who support us and allow us to keep printing. Thank you @chanelofficial for being the very first to support Violet - before we had anything to show - because you believed in me. (And continuing to do so for an entire decade). Thank you to all of you who read Violet, and who share your feelings, photos, enthusiasm, stories and love with us. It really means the world to have a space like this.
