class="content__text" Celebrated another rotation around the sun in my favorite place in the world. Thankful for the people in my life after what has felt like five long years of trudging through the shit, for those who gave me support and space for discovery, the good and bad, ugly and beautiful. For those of you in the trenches, it *does* get better and the community around you blooms when you heal and with you while you are actively healing. Love is alchemy. Nebulous. A life force unto itself, and I’m so grateful to be here and to have survived another year. Two highlights of my birthday this week included receiving the most beautiful guitar from my favorite human on this earth @heath.rowland , and being invited to music night where @russ_clune_lifer coaxed me out of the corner to join in my very first jam session. Also I got to hold a very cute baby. Thanks for the photo @tylerjallen !

class="content__text" I’ve been meaning to post about pod supporter @ocun.climbing , but we’ve been busy these last few weeks creating an October episode, dealing with unexpected life situations (including the tragic loss of our ten sweet chickens 💔) and traveling to the NRG. IT’S BEEN A V BUSY SEPTEMBER. It’s only serendipitous that I’m in the New while our friends Jenny + Žiži from @ocun.climbing are here for the AAC Craggin’ Classic. If you were lucky enough to catch their shoe demo this morning, then you already know! If you missed it, you can find them at Rocktoberfest in the Red or the Moab + Bishop Craggin’. Featured is the Bullit with a soft midsole, downturned profile, and a molded 3D toe patch for precise toe-hooking because aggressive but comfortable is our favorite way to be. Built for hard bouldering moves, engineered to help you send, and 100 percent vegan. 🌱 Stop by the Ocún booth tonight at the campground if you’re at the New and awe Jenny and the team with your ability to correctly pronounce “Ocún” because you’re an avid podcast listener. @ocun.climbing #fortheloveofclimbing #podcast #flcpodcast

class="content__text" Excited for the Santa Monica premiere of “What The Hands Do” this September 22nd at @patagoniasm ! Having been working in the film industry for 6+ years, I’ve seen many film projects come to life on the big screen. What I appreciate the most about the Patagonia film team is their mission to influence change on the ground, and their ability to bring these stories to life with integrity and compassion. These are changes I see reflected every day within our community. Patagonia continues to, with your help, halt dams, change policy, and protect millions of acres of wilderness. “What The Hands Do” centers community over individualism. Filmmaker @bingliu89 and climbers @labichita.mc , @dialogue4peace , Carizma Brown, and Luis Angel Fierros join for a post screening Q+A: Another Climbing is Possible: Radical Imagination and the Possibilities of Climbing. If you live in or around Santa Monica, don’t sleep on this event! @lagartijascc@patagonia@patagonia_climb@fortheloveofclimbing #fortheloveofclimbing #flcpodcast

class="content__text" Nobody who finds themselves at rock bottom expects to be there. And the thing about rock bottom is that it can look so normal on the outside, even though your entire world inside has been shattered into a million, tiny, lonely pieces. I have so much gratitude for @jess00289 and @chelseanicholerude for sharing their thoughts for this episode. Many of you commented that your main frustration is that we (collectively, as a society) say how much we need to destigmatize suicide and depression, but the conversation often stops there. My hope is that just making it feel ok to bring these uncomfortable but important stories to the forefront will help chip away at these issues and we can start to rewrite the narrative. And if it can help (even one) person feel safe to talk about it with someone, the conversation was worth it. Episode 52 discusses suicide. If you’re having a crisis or thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is here. Episode 52: My Friend Kris is available anywhere you get your podcasts. class="content__text" TW: suicide. September is National Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month, as well as World Suicide Prevention Day celebrated annually on September 10th, in order to promote more action and awareness on prevention. This is Jess and Chelsea. They’re both climbers, they both live in Colorado. They both love dogs, and they’re forever inextricably tied together by these very common, uncomplicated things. They’re also forever connected because of this one very complicated big thing. In September of 2020, the climbing community lost @krisugarriza to suicide. Three years later, we’re sharing this story through the lens of two friends. This podcast continues to work with @betterhelp to break down the stigma and persistent societal belief that mental health issues are a sign of weakness, and because everybody deserves a good support system, and sometimes that starts with one person. Betterhelp.com/climbing to find out more information about online therapy. If you’re having a crisis or thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is here. class="content__text" A pod-versary! 🎉 Celebrating the fifth year of @fortheloveofclimbing pod this week. Five years feels like a milestone worthy of an Instagram post, but really, this past year has been a huge turning point for both my professional and personal life. One year ago, I left van life (of also five years) to move all of my earthly belongings to Chattanooga, TN and spend any non-podkath time with @heath.rowland . We have a cat named Hot Dog, six baby chickens who are growing up too fast, and a really good time. I’m so lucky to be in such a kind and compassionate relationship with one of my best friends. I’ve picked up contracts (here and there) with the @bbc and I am excited to continue exploring where pod production + storytelling will bring me. I’ve worked long and hard to get here—two full-time jobs for exactly five years—and my only complaint is that I’m brimming with more ideas/stories than time to execute and share them! It’s always a process, brick by brick. And I am still in love with this work. Lastly, I’m a human being who’s still figuring it out. These last five years, I’ve been a person full of other peoples stories and sometimes their problems and trauma that come with that, as well as my own. And I’ve learned that you cannot refuel without emptying the tank first. This is also a big and long process. So, that’s where my heart is at these days. It’s as open as it is closed. It’s settling into the comfort of a new chapter of growth with clearer seeing, a bigger heart (I hope), and more wonder and curiosity and belief in impossibility. And real, genuine, bona fide love. That’s the good stuff, right there. Today I’m feeling both nostalgic and grateful for all of the connections, tears, and joy that has made its way into my life because of this work. For @patagonia for supporting these stories, along with @deuter_usa@allezoutdoor and @ocun.climbing . And especially to our listeners. Thank you for leaning into these conversations; y’all are the cornerstone of these last five years. Happy pod-versary, here’s to the next five. 🤘🏼 #fortheloveofclimbing @patagonia@[email protected] took this photo.

class="content__text" TWO NEW EPISODES DROP TODAY. Ep 50 + 51 - 40 Years to Freedom with @amminabbasi : Amin has been climbing for over 23 years, starting in Shiraz, a historical city in Iran. In 2017, he moved to the U.S. to work as a head routesetter, and was shot in a senseless act of violence that critically injured him and shook friends and family to their core. The irony of growing up in the Islamic Republic of Iran and never being afraid of guns until he moved to America is...sobering. Today, Amin remains deeply engaged in advocacy for Iranian people, especially women. He believes the revolution is coming and is inspired by those who have put their lives on the line for change. Episode 50 is part one of a two-part story. Bonus episode 51 also available today. 📸 @quest_for_wonders #fortheloveofclimbing #flcpodcast Presented by: @patagonia@patagonia_climb With support from: @deuter_usa@[email protected]

class="content__text" *cue viral tiktok music* Good partnerships take time. Some days, it feels like no time at all since first working with @patagonia and we are hecking grateful to be growing as a pod, and as people, with the support from the @patagonia_climb team. These stories are such a gift. It’s been a privilege to travel around the country these last five years in my rinky dink van to capture moments and words, and it’s an honor to get to tell them. One of the greatest honors has been doing it in partnership with Patagonia, who aims to amplify great storytelling of all climbers from all communities. Some of them are pro, but some don’t live in vans. Some don’t travel full-time and work remote. Some have been on magazine covers and others you’ve maybe never even heard of. Some are mothers, fathers, cancer survivors, transgender, your local routesetter. A friend. It’s such a mixed bag. Which is sort of the beauty of a storytelling platform. We are proud to offer the unique lens of experience though different voices, because behind each voice is a person. And each person is a colorful thread that gets weaved into this strong community. So, what’s it mean to be a “strong climber”? Find out in season 6 with returning ✨Presenting Sponsor✨ Patagonia. *end viral tiktok music* 📸@sav.cummins #fortheloveofclimbing #flcpodcast FLC Podcast is proudly presented by: @patagonia@patagonia_climb
