class="content__text" We Singaporeans have been talking about improving the lives of lower-wage workers for a while and it’s now time to walk the talk. Enter the brilliant initiative from Ministry of Manpower - PW Mark (or the Progressive Wage Mark). Remember that ok? “PW Mark”. The PW Mark is an accreditation scheme that recognises eligible firms that pay progressive wages to lower-wage workers. There’s already a Progressive Wage Model (PWM), essentially a framework that increases wages of workers in various sectors like cleaning and security, provides clear career pathways for wages to rise with training, and improves productivity. The PW Mark is the official accreditation that companies get IF they pay their workers Progressive Wages and at least the Local Qualifying Salary. It can get technical for companies but all you need to know is that if a company is accredited with the PW Mark, it means they are taking action to treat lower-wage workers better and with respect, even if it means paying them more. Some of those costs may be passed down to us, the consumers, so this is the time for all of us to literally put our money where our mouths are. Let’s actively support companies with the PW Mark accreditation because we care and we don’t want to leave anyone behind. (Some of these lower-wage workers might even be friends or family!)
