class="content__text" #CanonDiscover - Introducing @alexkingphotography 📷 🌿 Alex King is a Polynesian and Maori photographer who has a passion for storytelling through her beautiful lifestyle and portrait shots. Swipe through to check out her incredible work! "My name is Alexandra Moana King. I am a Polynesian and Maori photographer, storyteller and visionary. I was born in Opotiki on the East Coast of Aotearoa (New Zealand) where my mothers family and tribes (iwi) descend through Whakatohea, Ngai Tuhoe and Ngati Porou. However since birth, I was raised in Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands where my father comes from. Our families descend from the islands of Mangaia and Rarotonga and our tribe and Vaka is Uritaua, which in history descended from Hawai’i. I moved back from NZ to Rarotonga 7 years ago now. I have been on my photography journey for the past 11 years. Specialising in portrait photography, photo documentary, storytelling and wedding photography, I have photographed clients from around the globe and learnt how to craft emotional stories through these experiences. I am self taught and I've never studied photography. As an indigenous Māori Polynesian woman, visual storytelling and photography has come naturally to me and has played a huge role in my life as a powerful healing tool. I am also a mother of one daughter who is 9 years old, and she too has taught me valuable lessons. Her name is Zulay, which derives from the Persian "Zulaykha" meaning brilliant one, heavens and well born-into power. She is much of my drive in my business as a photographer and creative. My favourite hobbies are swimming and paddleboarding in our lagoon in Rarotonga, valley and bush adventures with my partner John, daughter Zulay and our doggy Snoopy. I love being amongst nature and we are a little family who spend so much time in our big island backyard. My favourite gear to use is my Canon EOS R and my wide angle lenses, it allows me to capture every moment around me as I spend so much time frolicking in natures backyard. I am also passionate about capturing portraits and telling stories of our people in our communities."

class="content__text" #CanonTakeover with #CanonMaster Mike Langford (@mikelangford_qccp ) I am a New Zealand born International travel photographer of forty years, now based in Twizel New Zealand from where I now run photographic workshops both in New Zealand and around the world with my photographic partner and wife Jackie Ranken. I first got into photography by default, as initially I just wanted to be a writer, well - more specifically a travel writer. Being a photographer had never even crossed my mind but it seemed that it was something that came naturally to me, (probably because of my previous study of Art History and Classics at school and university). In 1980 at the age of 29, I applied to do a photography diploma at the Wellington Design School, graduated and landed a job with a commercial photography company in Wellington where I learnt most of my photography skills. From 1984-2004 I was based in Australia, shooting for international publishing companies as well as for Australian Geographic. For me these were the dream jobs as they allowed me to do my own thing, to think my own way and to try and come up with new ways of seeing and telling stories while travelling the world. (I also got to do some writing)! As a visual communicator, (someone who uses a camera to tell stories), I have always tried to underpin my photographs with my ideas. Maybe it's just the idea of walking around the corner in an image, allowing the viewer to use their own imagination and making them a part of the story. I have always wanted to visually share my experiences and my life as I feel that since becoming a photographer it's all been quite exceptional. Forty-three years as a photographer and twenty-eight books later it's still what I live for. It's never been just a job for me, it's always been my passion. I am now a Grand Master & Fellow of the former Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), a Grand Master and Honorary Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and have been a Canon Master for the past twenty years. Make sure to check back to @canon.nz for more from Mike over the weekend!

class="content__text" #CanonTakeover with #CanonMaster Mike Langford (@mikelangford_qccp ) - Final Post! Mike's Top Photography Tips: 📷 Do the work you love and be true to yourself. By doing this your life as a photographer will be long, productive and rewarding. If you don't then you won't enjoy it as much, the work won't be as good as it could be and you will burn out very quickly and just stop wanting to do it any longer. 📷 Know the why and what you are doing. The greater the understanding you have of your subject and what it is being used for before you photograph it the better your visual communication of it will be. 📷 Work the hardest at the time of capture and get it right in camera. If you don't work in this manner then you will have to work even harder and longer in post-production. We hope you have enjoyed this takeover series with @mikelangford_qccp , let us know what you think below!

class="content__text" #CanonTakeover with #CanonMaster Mike Langford (@mikelangford_qccp ) I started photography with a Canon EF, graduating to the F1 and shooting with the latest cameras and lenses ever since. My current Travel Camera kit is: 1 x Canon EOS R5 1 x Canon ROS R 1 x Canon RF 100-500 4.5-7.1L IS USM 1 x Canon RF Lens 24-105 f/4L IS USM 3 x Canon Batteries 1 x 8 stop Neutral Density Filter Favorite Lens 📷 I don't have a favorite lens per se but the RF 24-105 f/4L IS USM lives on the EOS R5 most of the time as it's incredibly versatile and quick to use. Also as a person who predominantly likes to make photographs of things in places then this the lens to tell those stories. I also travel with a lightweight tripod, a Mac Book computer and two three terabyte external drives that I keep in different parts of my luggage so if something gets missing then I haven't lost anything. As a Travel/Geographic photographer I tend to travel light with just the minimum of gear that I try and keep under 7KG, so I don't have any trouble getting it on to aircraft as cabin baggage. I remember back in 1987 I had my entire camera kit stolen just before embarking on a travel assignment across China, Mongolia and Russia. All I could afford to buy was a Canon F1 body and one lens which ended up being the 20mm prime. This taught me to work hard with what I had and not to think that having more gear would make me a better photographer. The client never realised that I shot the whole assignment on just that one lens, as I just moved my feet!
