class="content__text" My latest, inspired by @patagonia’s for-purpose transformation and the #COP27 corporate debacle. 🤔 “What if businesses got creative to unleash funding, political influence, and cultural clout to address our existential environmental challenges? What if corporations were driven not by maximizing quarterly earnings and shareholder profits, but by the question of what it means to be responsible citizens of planet Earth? What might that look like across the global corporate ecosystem?” 🤗 Swipe to read. Link in bio and stories. Published on @atmos 🤍

class="content__text" Excited about this book! Co-author @windwoodakaya is my coach, so I can vouch for her sharp and wise insights — and her magnificent tough love auntie energy that I so need. 🤓🤨🤗 This book has a strong @climatevenn vibe, which I obviously dig. class="content__text" PUBLICATION DAY! 📚 Best American Science & Nature Writing of 2022 — as selected by me! So, yes, it’s the most diverse, femme, and melanated edition of this collection yet. It’s nerdy *and* cool. 🤓😎 Pick up a copy at your fave local independent bookstore. ✨ Shoutout to my neighborhood @greenlightbklyn — find a signed copies there! 📝 (And a signed copy of @allwecansave too!) Or via @bookshop_org, at link in bio. Re-posting my earlier description: I am thrilled with how this collection came together, arcing from observations to actions, from slime and giraffes 🦒 to climate solutions and nature restoration. I organized the anthology into 5 sections: - Nature is Magnificent - Nature is Roiled - Humans Are a Part of Nature - Ways of Knowing - Futures We Could Have The book is filled with glorious pieces by writers who are diverse across race, geography, age, areas of expertise, and writing styles. To counter the bias toward choosing pieces by more established journalists who publish in big name outlets, I read hundreds of pieces and dug far beyond what was nominated in order to select the 33 pieces that are included. I wrote an introduction that details my attempt to create an inclusive selection process and parses my own biases (e.g., toward ecology and planet Earth). There is so much magnificent and fascinating and compelling writing — it was extremely hard to choose! Thank you @harpercollins for entrusting me with this project.

class="content__text" TED talk is live! ✨ How can you help address the climate crisis? This talk is my best answer. I’ve been so inspired by how you all embraced the concept of a Climate Action Venn diagram — mapping the intersection of what you’re good at, what needs doing, and what brings you joy. So I thought I’d share it far and wide in hopes others would find it useful. I’m especially hoping this will be handy in classrooms and for community groups, so that more and more humans on this magnificent planet will put their heads together, roll up their sleeves, and get to work. Made a simple website as a resource for just that: climatevenn.info. Would love to see your #ClimateVenn! Please post and tag me and @climatevenn, so I can see and share the wonderful things you’re doing. The best part was getting to turn my talk into a mini workshop, so everyone in the audience could draw their own Venns — there’s a lot of talent and power and money at TED, and we need those folks all-in on climate solutions! Note: It was nerve wracking to memorize this — there are no teleprompters at TED! 😬 So a big thanks to the video editors who deleted the awkward pauses where I forgot my lines. And thank you to everyone who commented on drafts, listened to me practice, and gave me blunt and constructive criticism — honest feedback is such a gift. And thank you to the makeup artist who erased the sleepless nights worrying about landing this in one take. And this freaking perfect & sustainable suit from @maria_mcmanus_. And the biggest shoutout goes to @cyndistivers, the TED curator who coached me toward concise clarity. It takes a village y’all. PHEW. Link in bio and http://go.ted.com/ayanaelizabethjohnson22

class="content__text" I started a new Instagram account: @ClimateVenn. 🎯 For sharing examples of the *many* ways people can find their own sweet spot for climate action. Would love to see (and share!) your #ClimateVenns! Post and tag me and @ClimateVenn — so we can inspire each other with our climate actions ✨ And swipe to see my first sketch of this, from way back when. 🖍 If you prefer the video version of this loooong caption below, link in bio to the @TED talk. 🤓 And if you want it on a website, I made that too: ClimateVenn.info Repost @ClimateVenn • When it comes to climate action, all too often everyone is asked to do the same things: vote, protest, donate, spread the word, and lower your carbon footprint. And, yes, it’s great to do those things. I do those things! But all too rarely are we asked to contribute our *specific* talents, our superpowers. ✨ So how can we find our unique roles? Perhaps a Climate Action Venn Diagram can help — ask yourself these questions: 1️⃣ What are you good at? What are your areas of expertise? What can you bring to the table? Think about your skills, resources, and networks. 2️⃣ What is the work that needs doing? Are there particular climate and justice solutions that you’re keen on? Think about system-level changes and things that can replicate or scale. Things like composting initiatives, insulating buildings, protecting wetlands, getting climate candidates elected, and electrifying everything. There are heaps of options. [Swipe for a partial list via @projectdrawdown.] 3️⃣ What brings you joy and satisfaction? What gets you out of bed in the morning? There are sooooo many things that need to be done – please do not pick something that makes you miserable! Choose things that enliven and energize you. The goal is to be in the heart 💚 of your Venn diagram, where these three circles overlap, for as many minutes of your life as you can. If you’re familiar with the Japanese concept of Ikigai for finding your purpose, you can consider this a simplified, climate-focused version of that.

class="content__text" An enormous honor and delight to be interviewed by *the* Krista Tippet for @onbeing. 🎙Especially grateful for the chance to share poetry from the pages of @allwecansave and a poem by phenom youth climate leader @ayisha_sid. Link in bio to listen 🎧 Note: If you aren’t already aware of @onbeing — now celebrating 20 years on the air! — I cannot recommend this soulful interview show highly enough. ——— Repost from @onbeing • Amidst all of the perspectives and arguments around our ecological future, this much is true: we are not in the natural world — we are part of it. The next-generation marine biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson (@ayanaeliza) would let that reality of belonging show us the way forward. She loves the ocean. She loves human beings. And she’s animated by questions emerging from those loves — and from the science she does — which we scarcely know how to take seriously amidst so much demoralizing bad ecological news. This hour, Krista draws out her creative and pragmatic inquiry: Could we let ourselves be led by what we already know how to do, and by what we have it in us to save? What, she asks, if we get this right? This conversation was recorded at the 2022 @TED Conference. You can hear all of the talks coming out of the conference by following the TED Talks Daily podcast, wherever podcasts are found. Find a link to listen in our bio.
