As Women in America we are still most likely to be hurt the hardest by those we love the most. Growing up in a violent household helped me understand as an adult all the ways in which our culture is complicit in this ongoing war against women’s bodies, hearts and minds. If you know someone in a fragile situation today, please reach out. 💌 And men, if you know someone who is volatile please remember that your silence is the arm of the closed fist. It has only become our job as women to protect each other because you are failing in your role to do the work and end the cycles and cultures of abuse. You created this. And we hold the bruises.

When I was given a grant that changed my life and the trajectory of my business in 2015 I remained committed for the rest of my life to pay that opportunity forward. Which is one of the reasons why last night was such a personal and emotional moment for me. It was an honor to celebrate the @15percentpledge FIRST EVER Achievement Award which went to the incredibly deserving @54thrones@funke_tegbe 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 Also awarded were the insanely talented @sergiohudson@puzzlesofcolor@hyperskin and through a surprise generous donation from @brandonblackwoodnyc we were able to award @busayonyc as well. When one door opens the World can change. Thank you so much to @shopwithgoogle for making this dream come true. It’s OFFICIALLY JUST 16 WEEKS until this book baby that I’ve been giving so much love to for the past two and a half years is fully out in the World!! 🙈 this has truly been a labor of love for me. I have written about things I never thought I’d have the courage to even talk to anyone about. And I’m sharing in the hopes that some of what has happened to me and what I’ve gone through to get to where I am now will make some of you feel a little less alone. We are all navigating this crazy beautiful mess of a life together. The kids have grown up and now we are the adults in the room. How do we want to build our house? What do we want to stand for? What have we fallen for? Who did we invite to our tables and who do they make space for? I don’t have all the answers, in my life I feel that answers have usually led to more questions. But maybe the most magical parts of life can happen when we’re seeking out those answers. ✨🫶🏽 I love you. And I hope hope that you will consider pre-ordering a copy of my book. I wrote it for you. So many of your businesses are built on Black spending power. So many of your stores are set up in Black communities. So many of your sponsored posts are seen on Black feeds. This is the least you can do for us. We represent 15% of the population and we need to represent 15% of your shelf space. . Whole Foods if you were to sign on to this pledge, it could immediately drive much needed support to Black farmers. Banks will be forced to take them seriously because they will be walking in with major purchase orders from Whole Foods. Investors for the very first time will start actively seeking them out. Small businesses can turn into bigger ones. Real investment will start happening in Black businesses which will subsequently be paid forward into our Black communities. . Dont get me wrong, I understand the complexities of this request. I am a business Woman. I have sold millions of dollars of product over the years at a business I started with $3500 at a flea market. So I am telling you we can get this figured out. This is an opportunity. It is your opportunity to get in the right side of this. . So for all of the ‘what can we do to help?’ questions out there, this is my personal answer. #15PercentPledge . I will get texts that this is crazy. I will get phone calls that this is too direct, too big of an ask, too this, too that. But I don’t think it’s too anything, in fact I think it’s just a start. You want to be an ally? This is what I’m asking for.
