The new selfwinding hour, minute and second movement is thinner and endowed with a higher frequency compared to Calibre 3120, which it replaces. It also has a 60-hours power reserve. A state-of-the-art successor. The new in-house Calibre 7121 replaces extra-thin Calibre 2121 first introduced on the Royal Oak in 1972. This new movement has been specifically conceived to fit in the extra-thin 8.1 mm “Jumbo” case without altering its aesthetic and thickness. A new design evolution. The gold Audemars Piguet signature endowed with a unique topography now replaces the applied AP monogram and the printed “AUDEMARS PIGUET” at 12 o’clock. Each letter is connected with links approximately the size of a hair and placed on the dial by hand with tiny legs almost invisible to the naked eye. This signature in relief was originally conceived for the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection. Made of thin layers of 24-carat gold, it is achieved through a chemical process akin to 3D printing known as galvanic growth. Most of the 2022 Royal Oak novelties are endowed with the guilloché "Grande Tapisserie" pattern achieved through a complex manufacturing process based on a rare know-how no longer taught in horology school. This decorative pattern offers a play of reliefs and contrasts that arranges the display and improves the readability.
