class="content__text" Who tells your story matters not only because it informs the message but also because it shapes the perspective. When climate justice is visible to more people through media representation, we show what is possible and build support for policy solutions that act on justice. This narrative shift shows the ripple effect of our strategy to amplify our grantees’ climate solutions stories in the media. As equity is adopted as a core value across our field, rooting stories in communities of color is key. What kinds of stories are you seeing about clean energy and climate change? What, or who, is centered in them? Are you excited to see the solutions presented or left feeling bleak for the future? . . . . . #NarrativePower #StoryTelling #Media #ClimateCommunications #Equity #CleanEnergy #ClimateMedia

class="content__text" When it comes to the climate crisis, people love to talk. They'll shout, point fingers, tease out sound bites, filibuster, and more. Sometimes all of that talk railroads the work. If "talk is cheap" was a person it would be Dr. John Francis. When confronted with the devastation left behind from an oil tanker collision in San Francisco, Dr. Francis took his feelings of helplessness and frustration and channeled it into a 20+ year commitment to listen and learn and walk. Check out his memoir Planetwalker, a coming-of-age odyssey about individual climate action and a treatise on courage.

class="content__text" What does Booker T Washington, George Washington Carver, and over 45,000 people across the U.S. all have in common? Farming! The climate crisis exposed not only how broken and fragile our food system is but also the travails of people who take on one of the most courageous forms of economic self-determination. Generations of broken promises from the federal government compounded with horribly discriminatory practices, strategic land grabs, and razing ultimately destroyed what little Black Farmers were able to create. Booker T. Washington, founder of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, established the Tuskegee Institute Movable School in 1906. This was an outreach effort that traveled to Black farms in the South to demonstrate new technologies, share best practices, and deliver supplies. George Washington Carver, as head of Tuskegee's agricultural school in 1896, would expand the program with its "Farmer's College on Wheels," the Jesup Agricultural Wagon. By 1920, the USDA estimated that over half of all Black people in the US lived on farms. 14% of American farmers were Black, working nearly 16 million acres of land. What do you think those numbers look like today? Image: @austinpubliclibrary . . . . . . #BlackFarmers #BlackHistoryMonth #FoodSovereignty #FoodJustice #MutualAid

class="content__text" Grassroots organizations have always been and will always be the driving force behind change. No one knows what a neighborhood needs better than the folks who call it home. Frontline solutions are our best bet for solving the climate crisis. Meet one of the faces of the grassroots environmental justice movement in the American South, Connie Tucker. Tucker served as an activist beginning the 1970s up until her passing in 2015. In 1992, before becoming its Executive Director, Tucker worked as a coordinator of the Southern Organizing Committee (SOC)'s Southwide Environmental Justice Project, helping to organize its historic regional conference in New Orleans, the largest diverse environmental justice conference to date with 2500 grassroots people in attendance. As an experienced activist and organizer, she focused on various environmental justice issues, including public policy; community involvement; enforcement and compliance; waste facilities; hazardous waste and Superfund sites; pollution prevention, health; community ways of knowing; and a host of others. Her peers and co-activists knew Tucker as "a committed leader with a determined spirit." In 1998, Tucker was awarded the prestigious Bannerman Fellowship for long-time activists of color and the international Resourceful Women's Award for women activists working to achieve social justice and a sustainable future. class="content__text" What are our grantee partners saying about working with The Solutions Project? It's pretty awesome over here for a few reasons: 📖 We are great storytellers, 💡 They trust us to help them build their narrative power, 💯 And they tell us the truth because they know we will listen and pivot to help them succeed! We give grants to those closest to the problems because we know they are closest to the solutions and do not have the philanthropic resources they need and deserve. Don't miss an opportunity to partner! Sign up for our newsletter so you get announcements delivered straight to your inbox. Link in bio!
