 It feels like it bruises your soul to watch the news, to see how people talk to each other on social media, to still hear people trying to defend why racism is not a big deal or not an issue. I’ve heard so many Black people share stories in the past couple of weeks about normal, daily things that I take for granted that go horribly differently for them. And then I see the white person come in with their “yeah, but...” There is no but. 
We need to acknowledge their pain, not try to brush it aside or explain it away. There is so much beyond our control right now, but our actions and words are still within our control. Let’s speak out of empathy and a desire to understand, not a need to be right.
