Winter lake life shared by photographer and #SonyArtisan @katrin_eismann ❄️ "Living directly on Lake Huron allows me to wonder as the light and weather change within minutes and how the sunrises range from dramatic to subtle. Although I relish the sunrises, rather than photographing them I look for intriguing shapes, forms, and subjects to focus on. The combination of the Sony Alpha 1 and the 85mm F1.8 lens allowed me to create abstract portraits of the ice forms in the pastel winter light." Tips and tricks from photographer @david_erichsen_photo 👉 "Flying over the Icelandic riverbeds was on my bucket list for years. Getting ideal conditions requires a decent amount of luck. You want the water to be high enough to offer that sharp abstract perspective, but not too high otherwise everything will just be washed out. I knew my Sony 24-105mm would be the perfect lens to capture these frames as the 81mm range offers unparalleled flexibility to fill the whole frame with the shot you're looking for. I also used a Nisi landscape polarizer to reduce residual glare and really bring out the vibrancy of the riverbeds." Advice from photographer @erinnewmanmitchell on capturing this rare yet iconic shot 🔥 "It had been a long time dream of mine to visit and photograph the Yosemite Firefall and this past February I was able to make it come true. Firefall is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the last couple of weeks of February in which the sun sets at such an angle that it illuminates Horsetail Falls on the eastern side of El Capitan. This day didn't look too promising as clouds surrounded the valley. Though as the sun began to set there was a break on the horizon and a burst of light was able to come through lighting up the granite side. This is a highly trafficked event so I'd recommend that anyone planning on visiting arrives several hours in advance in order to find the perfect spot. I would also recommend bracketing to ensure that your final image comes out properly exposed with the maximum amount of detail possible as the sky is often extremely bright while the mountain is very dark." Looking to create your own images with leading lines and blur effect? Read how photographer @griffie.visuals captured both of these images 🚆 "For this first image, I stood on the platform looking for leading lines and a passenger on the platform, I then awaited the moment for a train to pull into the station. In the final image, I was able to capture an image of a passenger getting off the train and walking towards the exit. Additionally, at this point, the train began to depart. My focal length was 34mm and my settings were 1/200-sec., f/4 and ISO 100. For the second image, similar to the previous station photo, I positioned myself in a spot where the leading lines would have a pleasing effect. I captured the image with a focal length of 16mm and the following settings: 1/160-sec., f/3.5, ISO 250." Read through the stories behind this collection of images shared by photographer and #AlphaCollective member @tjdrysdale "This image was taken in the Italian Dolomites, in the Tre Cime region. This specific viewpoint is called Cima Caden. The views from here were breathtaking and we could have easily stayed all day. To get this shot I stayed a little bit higher on the ridge while Victoria hiked down to the lower viewpoint. I knew I wanted to get some really good compression with that epic mountain in the background, so I brought out my 70-400mm. I stayed mostly around the 70-100 range for the majority of the shoot. Holding that lens can get pretty tiring, so I sat down, found a good rock to lean up against, and used my knee as a counterweight! It worked out pretty well!" "This second picture was taken in North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This viewpoint is called Rough ridge, and is actually what inspired Fraser's Ridge in the popular book/TV series Outlander! We were lucky enough to get there just as the fog descended into the valley. We shot past sunset into nightfall, and brought out our trusty lantern! We actually almost didn't bring it on the hike to save space in our bags, but thankfully we did! The fog was epic, but the useable light was quickly fading, and I didn't really want to waste time setting up a tripod, so I had to become my own tripod! I often find myself in these situations, so what I've learned to do when I'm shooting at ultra-low shutter speeds is to hold my breath, and snap around 10 pictures as I do. It works well, and 9 times out of 10 the pictures come out sharp!" "This final shot is from the epic coast of Iceland! While we were hoping for a sunset that evening, these moody vibes weren't disappointing at all! We decided to add a cape to the mix, and it was a good choice as the wind was definitely looking out for us that day. Although I enjoyed the wind, it did make it a little tricky to get a good shot of the cape. Once I changed the drive mode to Hi+ it made life so much easier. I captured tons of variations of the cape! The only downside was hundreds of more photos to sort through and agonize over haha." #SonyAlpha

Sometimes all you need is a new perspective. Photographer and #AlphaCollective member @phives shares how he used the 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS to reconnect with nature 🐝 "Having fallen into a creative rut as a city/street photographer, I found the need to break away and make an attempt at something completely different than what I'm accustomed to shooting. The Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro lens was integral to that process as it helped me reconnect with nature on an up-close-and-personal level. Despite being one of the sharpest lenses I've ever used with a buttery-smooth bokeh falloff, what pleasantly surprised me the most was its optical stabilization - which allowed me to snap this shot at a moment's notice without having to go through the trouble of setting up a tripod (worth noting that I have shaky hands). With so much going on in the world, it's important to appreciate the finer things/details in life and this macro lens certainly makes it easy and beautiful to capture." Give this tip from photographer and #AlphaCollective member @autpops a try to add drama to your photography 👉 "Scale is one of my favorite photography tools, and I’m always blown away at how much it can impact an image. In photos, it’s hard to grasp the sense of scale for a location without another element to compare the surroundings to. By including a person, you can clearly showcase the enormity of the landscape to create a more interesting and dramatic shot. I was able to capture three layers of rock formations in this photo, which I think also adds to the expansiveness of this colorful desert landscape." What's your go-to spot? Photographer and #AlphaCollective member @missjessbess shares more about one of her favorite places to shoot ✨ “I’ve visited these areas of the California desert dozens of times and could visit a dozen more. The puzzles of cracked mud tiles and playgrounds of giant granite boulders have so many stories waiting to be told. Not to mention that these are some of the darkest skies, allowing the stars to shine brighter. The 14mm GM really impressed me here, it’s wide enough to capture these grandiose scenes but small enough that it never weighed my pack down. And it’s so insanely sharp that even at the f/1.8, I had pinpoint stars.” Alpha 7R IV • 14mm F1.8 G Master • #SonyAlpha

No tripod? No problem for New Mexico-based photographer @willg_photography . Find out how he got creative to create this composite without a tripod 🐕 "This capture was candid, my fiancé and our dog Doug love to run up the dunes and slide down. As the moon and sun were setting, I captured the foreground with my Sony Alpha 7 III and Sony 85mm F1.8 lens. Then I shot the moon with my Sony 70-200mm F2.8 G Master lens. I tend to carry a tripod with me everywhere but this nightly walk I used my camera bag to steady the scene as I laid on the ground in the cool white sand."
