"This photograph was taken in Denver Colorado during a day of heavy snow. My intention for this image was to capture form, contrast, and balance, and I managed to capture all three of these in a very calming environment. I used balance to create a satisfying unity between positive and negative space. I found contrast through my angle of the building in comparison with the bright sky, and I found form in the building itself to create a pleasing asymmetrical composition. When making this image B&W I managed to capture a timeless feeling and the bird within this image gave it a whole new sense of life. Overall, my main takeaways from this are simple but important as I have been practicing and getting better at including multiple elements and principles of design to create compelling and appealing images that speak to me. This image has also helped me pick through what I like in my editing style as I am very picky and indecisive with my edit aesthetic." Shout out Ethan Risley on this piece! “This piece I made as an intro to my demo reel. I created this piece using a design that I created in another class for the cat, along with techniques that I learned in another class for After Effects. I wanted to make something that could showcase most of my skills in animation while being quick and eye-catching.” Shout out to Kara Roberts on this piece! Join us in congratulating this week's #rmcadwip winner, alumnus Marlyena Mendoza! Here's what the artist has to say about this piece, "This was some Lemongrab fanart that I did while feeling stuck and wondering about what major project to do next. Sometimes you have to just do something fun and try not to think too much about it to keep progressing. Lemongrab is from the show Adventure Time and he is by far my favorite character. I really wanted to see him trying to take out the candy kingdom in the show. Honestly, I think I could have lightened up on the piece towards the end but overall I'm very happy with it." “In this assignment, in Illustration Marketing, our goal was to create a self-portrait of our style to use as branding for ourselves as artists. We created a portrait of ourselves that best portrays our work and style and the audiences we will be wanting to reach. Then we created a logo to use as our title of a website for our work and our name as well. This was a really fun project and great to develop a brand for artists. This class has definitely been one of my favorites. Seeing our businesses or our branding come to life in this class is so exciting and really makes the journey and destination of our goals become real.” Shout out to the talented Hannah Wingfield on this piece! "This was a project for my still life painting class. We had to paint in greyscale and then use glazes to create shadowed areas and add color. This was a different method than what I’m used to using so it was a fun learning experience!" Shout out to Maggie Isamoyer on making this beautiful piece. Give the artist a follow @magsi_art.

Who else loves this piece created by the talented Tina Carbone? Here’s what the Illustration major has to say about this project, “the winter wonderland piece was a personal work. Following the completion of the Fall semester, I wanted to challenge myself to create an illustration from scratch using all the new skills I had acquired from my recent classes. "This digital portrait was a quick personal project made in about 2 hours. I wanted to challenge myself to a different style than what I usually use, adding lots of textures and highlights. This is a character portrait inspired by Elide Lochan from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. I love drawing scenes and characters from different books that I've read so this was a really fun study." Can you believe this was made in just two hours?! Take a look at the work of Fine Arts major, Lauren Holzinger! Here's what the artist has to say about this piece, "in this series, I attempted to embody the color and spirit of each chakra. Chakras are energetic centers located at seven different points along our spine and are each connected to different colors, elements, and physical, mental, and emotional ailments. When we balance our chakras intentionally, we can heal certain aspects of trauma and pain and over time become more well-rounded, balanced people. My intention behind this project was to open up potential viewers to the idea of learning about and working with energy centers as they are not something we are taught about in mainstream western culture. Within this project, I experimented with various forms of editing and digital collage within photoshop. Having limited experience, this was an endeavor that allowed me to expand my creativity through new formats and learn more about how to use the program itself." Lauren is super talented, so give her a follow @laurenabiphotography.

Join us in congratulating this week’s #rmcadwip winner, Hannah Wingfield! Here’s what the artist has to say about this piece, “in this project in Illustration II our assignment was to create our view of a person/public figure or in other words, create a caricature of some sort. I did this digitally using ProCreate. I wanted to capture the bad along with the goofy side that came with the show on Netflix. I wanted to give somewhat of a vintage look to it using the old TV and make it more "Tiger King" with patterns that best represent his background.” Make sure to give Hannah a follow @hannahcreates_it.

"For our second project in Illustration 3, we were tasked with making a GIF that was inspired by an event in our lives that changed us as a person. Immediately, I knew I had to do something inspired by my nephew. He is the only person I know that thinks that snakes are cute. Becoming an aunt has been such a huge blessing in my life- I'm not a mother yet, but being an aunt has allowed me a glimpse into what loving someone on a different level can look like. Working in procreate, I was able to set the base layer of the snake on the glass, and work on top of that with various layers to achieve the effect of the snake drinking the lemonade."
