"The 50-250mm DX lens would not be an obvious choice of telephoto lens for many professional photographers, but as a travel photographer, it's a no-brainer. Carrying all of my gear on flights, hikes, and bikes every day for professional shoots, I physically can't take every lens to suit every situation. For a focal length I use less than 10% of the time, carrying a big, heavy lens like the 70-200mm 2.8 is rarely a sensible choice. But at a fraction of the weight, and in an ultra-compact form, the DX 50-250 always earns a spot in my travel bag. Knowing how to get the best out of the affordable DX zoom lens means I can often take better (and heavier) wide-angle and prime lenses with me, the focal lengths I use most. In 2021 I won a Nikon Z fc camera in the Curious 7 Competition, with a photo of my rainbow Maya Ruffle Dress. I became a part of The Curious 7, a group of creators inspired by colour, capturing their creative journeys on camera. It couldn’t have come at a better time and helped me level up my content creation game. I’ve been putting it to WORK ever since, using it for all things DIY Daisy; I even shot the author’s portrait in my book with it! 👏

I recently found out Nikon is offering colour swaps on the Z fc, and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give it a makeover and make it more ME. 🌈 There are 12 beautiful colours to choose from, and I tossed up between my four faves, Amber Brown, Coral Pink, White and Mustard Yellow. In the end, I decided to go with the gorgeous Coral Pink, and I think it’s so cute. All I did was send it off to Nikon, they worked their magic, and I got my Z fc back in just a couple of weeks, fresh from her makeover! ☺️💖

All you have to do to win, is post an image or video to your public Instagram and use the hashtag #NikonTrueTide. Entries can be shot on any camera gear and you just have to live in Australia. Entries for the competition close on the 8th March so get your photos in!

I'll be looking for images that make me wonder about the world that frame was taken in. I want to see you tell a story with the ocean subjects and the coastal landscapes and make me stop to question it. I'm a big fan of gentle colours and soft tones. I'll know when I see it. Good luck!

I’ll be part of the judging panel on @Nikonaustralia ‘s next #ForTheTrue competition!

Introducing: #NikonTrueTide

This competition is all about the ocean. Whether you are shooting from land or water at your local beach, in and around Australia’s vast coastline or tidal creeks: we would love to see what #NikonTrueTide means to you.

I will be looking for framing that traps the viewer’s eyes within the image, images exposed to capture the speed/movement of the tide, compositional features which could include: leading lines, prominent foreground features, patterns, shapes, symmetry, making use of the environment in which you are shooting.

You have until 11.59pm AEDT on Wednesday, 8th March 2023 to post your entries (either an image or video) to your public Instagram account with the #ForTheTrue and #NikonTrueTide hashtags. The winner will receive a Nikon Z6 II and Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 lens.

You may submit your entries using any gear however entrants must be Australian residents with an Australian residential address.
