This 12,000-​square-foot Tudor home in Pittsburgh, whose baronial vibe formerly conjured an Agatha Christie murder mystery, belongs to designer Ramsey Lyons (@ramseylyonsdesign ). She successfully transformed the eerie spaces into a cheerful, modern home for her family of eight (her husband, two tweens, two pups, and two rabbits 🐰). Designer Jean-Louis Deniot (@jeanlouisdeniot ) combined classical touches and whimsy in his family’s charming seaside escape in Île de Ré, France. One of the half-serious themes adopted for the decor was “Tintin at the beach,” after the iconic Belgian cartoon character. “That led us to introduce bright colors and some slightly childish touches,” says Jean-Louis. Here in the living area, that meant cozy vintage furnishings upholstered in sunny hues, and a model of a 19th-century racing yacht in the entry hall, visible just beyond. We recently peeked inside a gorgeous, gold-tinged dining room in a striking Malibu coastal retreat designed by Standard Architecture (@standardarchitecture ) and Martha Mulholland (@martha_mulholland ). The walnut dining table was custom-made by the client’s father, and the dining chairs—also custom—are upholstered in an opulent @roseuniacke velvet.
