In Indian painting, particularly in the Pahari region, the divine lovers Radha and Krishna take on the roles of nayika and nayaka in Rasikapriya or Ashtanayika ('Eight Heroine') series. In the present painting, an offended and upset Radha rebukes Krishna for his infidelity as he returns to her doorstep in the early morning. ⠀ ⠀ Krishna's eyes carry a slight red flush from sleeplessness, while his bright red lips suggest he has been kissing another woman's hennaed feet, recalling classic depictions of Krishna hennaing Radha's feet, Svadhinapatika Nayika (One Who has her Lover in Subjection).⠀ ⠀ An Illustration from a Rasikapriya Series: Radha Upbraids Krishna For Going with Other Women. India, Pahari Hills, Guler, Master of The First Generation After Manaku And Nainsukh, Circa 1750-60. Estimate: $60,000-80,00.⠀ ⠀ Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Works of Art — 22 September, New York ⠀ ⠀ #art #artist #southeastasianart #indianart #himalayanart #newyork #auction

New York Fashion Week is back! We’re marking the return of in-person runway shows with this iconic William Klein image shot in 1958 for Vogue Magazine, which will be offered in NY next month. 📣Tag your most fashionable friend! In search of new talent, Vogue art director, Alexander Liberman hired young William Klein who was known for his grainy, blurry, and bold street photography. ⠀ Liberman said about his photographs, 'In the fashion pictures of the 50s, nothing like Klein had happened before...He took fashion out of the studio into the streets, trying anything, stopping traffic, photographing models in waxworks, repainting shop fronts, hiring actors...He was the first to bring into photography what [Fernand] Léger achieved in art: the glorification of the life and rhythms of the street'.⠀ William Klein (b. 1928), 'Smoke + Veil, Paris (Vogue)', 1958. Estimate: $7,000-9,000.⠀ © 1958 William Klein⠀ ⠀ Photographs — 6 October, New York⠀ ⠀ #art #artist #photography #photographs #vogue #NYFW #NYFW21 #fashion #NYiswhereitsAT #fashionphotography #williamklein @nyfw
