On December 3, 1976, Bob Marley, @officialritamarley, and manager Don Taylor were shot in an attempted assassination during rehearsals for the Smile Jamaica Concert. What began as an effort to play a free show for the people became perceived as a political rally for the incumbent (PNP) party, after the Prime Minister called for a snap election shortly after the event. Bob was shot in the arm, Rita in the head, and Don in the chest.
