class="content__text" Itās been 1 year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Lives lost, disrupted and forever transformed. I met Sisters Ludmyla, 35, and Nelya Tkachenko, 41 from Kyiv on assignment for @natgeo . They shared their concern for the children who crossed into Poland with them, and fought back tears thinking of the men and families still in Ukraine. Nelya says sheās neither here nor there. āHalf my heart I left behind, half I brought with me.ā Work for @natgeo with @anastasiatl on the Ukrainian border last year, five days following the invasion.

class="content__text" The one year anniversary of war in Ukraine. Last year, a few days after Russiaās invasion, I visited the Ukraine border for @natgeo with @anastasiatl for a multimedia story documenting the millions of refugees fleeing Russian invasion. A year on, on the anniversary of war, itās hard to believe the atrocities that continue to unfold as we speak. Itās likely in the next few decades we will all either be welcoming refugees into our communities, or become refugees ourselves. Today is Ukraine, tomorrow it could be me. But remember, when you speak of the war in Ukraine, in the same breath, donāt forget to mention refugees Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan and beyond. Open your heart and avoid what @hassanakkad called āselective sympathyā. Our solidarity should be endlessly expansive, our compassion should know no limits. Let this be a moment where we discover our shared humanity. We cannot leave anyone behind, regardless of where they were lucky enough to be born in this random lottery game called life.

class="content__text" Remembering an @earthrise.studio project last year where we worked on a campaign called Materials Matter with @textileexchange in collaboration with @therighttoroamfilms & @brotherfilmco . We are so often hidden from the people and processes involved in the fashion industry!! The film celebrates three raw material suppliers that grow cotton, wool and viscose. I wanted to share some of the BTS behind this shoot, as we often show finished projects without also sharing the days of hard work and incredible teams behind them - so many brilliant people came together to make this vision a reality! Watch the finished film on the Textile Exchange YouTube š¬

class="content__text" One of my favourite quotes is by Amitav Ghosh: āThe climateĀ crisisĀ is aĀ crisisĀ of culture, and thus of theĀ imaginationā. Ā Itās clear we need a new story. A revolution in thinking. Thatās what drives my passion for storytelling.Ā But often we are constrained by our busy lives, distracted minds.Ā Ā I was fascinated to read Lenovoās Think Report stating that nearly 80% of people believe that we, as a society, need to develop a new approach to thinking. Ā 85% of people in the US, 78% in the UK and 67% in Japan agree that if people in the world today engaged in more thoughtful, meaningful and deep thinking, it would increase our productive humanity.Ā Ā I certainly hope so. Ā My way to find a sense of calm and focus is to get out in nature - where the noise of the wind replaces the sound of the cityās sirens and gives me space to hear my own thoughts. To broaden my horizons, and find a new perceptive. class="content__text" Itās an old cliche that in times of crisis you see the best and worst in humanity. In the days I spent on the Ukrainian border, I felt that duality was explicitly clear: a heartwarming volunteer response from the Polish but two Nazi rallies to confront the African students leaving Ukraine. How do I celebrate the warm welcome of Ukrainians across borders, but simultaneously grieve the stark contrast to Europeās response to the Syrian refugee crisis? How do I honour that 2.5 million refugees from Ukraine have been quickly absorbed into Europe seemingly without a trace, but recognise that the same nations and borders who are letting Ukrainians through without batting an eyelid have beaten Syrians with batons and chasing them with dogs. Iāve felt completely overwhelmed by watching this paradox unfold. The double standard is blatant. Indeed, weāre unlikely to see the informal refugee camps at border like the ones Iāve visited across Europe - and if Ukrainians needed to cross an ocean, we most certainly wouldnāt let them drown. The hypocrisy is painful. The Syrian crisis was not a political crisis, it was a crisis of empathy. So when you speak of the war in Ukraine, in the same breath, donāt forget to mention refugees Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan and beyond. Itās very likely in the next few decades we will all either be welcoming refugees into our communities, or become refugees ourselves. Today is Ukraine, tomorrow it could be me.
